The Morning Sort Is Paid Driver Time
When packages arrive mixed, each driver pulls and sorts their own route before leaving. At a station we visited in Santa Monica, drivers arrived around 6:00 AM, sorted by hand, and left around 9:00 AM. In Flushing, Queens, three or four delivery partners took turns on the same shared sorting floor every morning.
That time is getting more expensive. Amazon expects average delivery associate pay to reach nearly $24 an hour in 2027 (Amazon, September 2026).
What does your sort cost?
Drivers × sorting minutes × hourly wage, divided by packages, gives your cost per package. If it's above the per-parcel price, a sorter saves money. If your drivers sort for only a few minutes, it won't.
Routes Built Before Drivers Arrive
1. Packages arrive
Inbound freight comes in as it does today. Nothing changes upstream.
2. The sorter reads labels
The FlowSort S15 reads each label and assigns the package to a route using your route plan.
3. Routes are staged
Packages leave the sorter grouped by route. Carrier-required scans stay with drivers.
4. Drivers load and go
Time that was sorting becomes delivery time. You pay only for parcels sorted.

Questions from Delivery Partners
Do I need my carrier's permission to use a sorter?
It depends on your carrier agreement and who controls the facility. Check your agreement first. If the carrier controls the station, SortLease can prepare a 30-day pilot proposal for station management. We don't contact your carrier or station without your permission.
Does the sorter connect to carrier systems?
No. The sorter reads package labels and groups packages by route using your route plan. It does not connect to or change carrier systems, and carrier-required scans stay with drivers.
What does it cost?
Pay-per-parcel pricing starts from $0.10 per package and is set in writing for your site. Use the driver sorting cost calculator to compare it with what hand-sorting costs you today.
Is one sorter enough for my volume?
Each tier or line is rated at up to 3,600 parcels per hour. A delivery partner sorting 3,000 packages in a one-hour window needs one; a shared hub with three or four partners may need two or three.
What happens in a 30-day pilot?
You time your current sort for a week, SortLease installs and runs the sorter for 30 days under written terms, and both sides compare driver sorting hours and departure times before and during the pilot. The sorter is removable if the pilot does not continue.
